Chinese New Year is the biggest festival of the year here in Singapore. So heading down to Chinatown is a must for anyone who wants to get a taste of the energy and excitement that is growing by the hour. This year Mickey and Minnie Mouse lanterns decorate the arches along the main streets, in keeping with the next Lunar Year of the Rat.
The street stalls along Pagoda, Smith, Sago Temple, and Trengganu Streets are crowded with people stocking up on all the essential for the festive season. The market is only open until tomorrow night (6 February), so be quick. There are performances happening at the Kreta Ayer Square between 8pm and 10.30pm, and then the "Countdown party" from 9pm till after midnight which will welcome in the Year of the Rat with noisy firecrackers and a fireworks display.
