I have just been playing a computer game with my kids called Race to the Center of the Earth. I don't usually do this, but thought this one might be fun and educational so gave it a try.
This game has been released to coincide with the release of the latest action adventure flick Journey to the Center of the Earth, with Brendan Fraser. The film will be released in USA on July 11 and here in Singapore on August 7.
The game consists of various challenges which bring you closer to the center of the earth. The first challenge is an interactive scavenger hunt with geographical questions which, if answered correctly, lead you to something from the film, such as a glowbird, or a prehistoric piranha. The google satellite maps zoom into your destination which is great for the kids to see.
The next two challenges make you feel like you are right in the film, jumping from rock to rock, or falling down a deep hole trying to avoid the rocks coming at you, collecting as many diamonds along the way. It is quite an exciting adrenalin rush as you get hit by rocks and the image squeals with pain.
This is definitely a fun and educational game to play with your kids. They will need help with the geography questions, or perhaps you can get help from them (as I needed to do), so play together and enjoy the great graphics. You'll all want to go check out the film after playing, which, of course, is the whole point of the game!
