The Singapore Flyer has reopened after being shut down for one month after technical difficulties. I was surprised to hear that while I was in Australia an electrical fire trapped 173 people inside their cabins for 6 hours. Ten people were dramatically rescued using harnesses and 2 were taken to hospital.

Oh my! What a disaster for the world's biggest observation wheel. Is it doomed to be the world's largest white elephant? The primary drive system has been repaired, new back-up systems have been installed, and emergency supplies have been put in each cabin. But can it's reputation be repaired? Reports tell us that 1000 people rode the Flyer yesterday, so perhaps people aren't totally put off by this disastrous bit of PR. We had a good time on the Flyer here, but I don't think I'll be rushing back any time soon.
