If you don't fancy baking a cake in a hot kitchen there are plenty of options to outsource. We are spoilt for choice when deciding on children's birthday cakes in Singapore. There are some really classy cakes on offer at last, so if you can't bake your own, here are a few suggestions:

  • Smiling Orchid- the old favourite. A new website shows off their range of cute cakes as well as other items for sale. Their cakes range from basic cake to some elaborate and fun cakes, complete with toys that the child can keep. Prices: From S$45 for a 1kg cake to S$150 for a 3kg Jurassic Park cake. Self collection from Ghim Moh outlet or delivery charges (free for orders over S$300).

  • Bakerzin- since expanding to include Bakerzin Kids, their cakes have become very popular. They have a good range of character cakes, from Ben 10 cakes to Bob the Builder and Barney. Prices: S$128-S$168 for 2kg character cake. Two working days needed to process order. Self collection or delivery (free for orders over S$150.

  • Gorgeous cakes baked by a mum in Singapore and inspired by her kids. There is an egg-free zone,recipes for deserts, soups and other dishes, cupcakes and simply stunning designs. Prices: Children's birthday cakes range from S$1.50 per cupcake (minimum order of 12) to around S$146 for 3kg cake. Five to ten working days needed. Free delivery for East Coast Road area and orders over S$150.

  • De Paulo Gastonomia 43 Jalan Merah Saga, Chip Bee Gardens. ph: 64751323. Pop into this small patisserie and talk to the chef about your requirements. They have many different types of actual cake and will decorate it to your specifications. Prices vary depending on intricacy of decorations. Self collect, 5 dayas needed.

  • Sweet Secrets. This patisserie do photo cakes, were they print your personal pictures onto any of their cakes. They can enlarge, reduce or crop any picture to fit the cake size. Prices: between S$28 and S$160 for a 4kg photo cake. Delivery charges, 3kg and above free.

  • Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf This cafe does cute kids' cakes. Prices: S$60 fro a 3kg cake to S$180 fro a 3D football cake weighing in at 6kg. #-4 working days required to process order.

  • Phoon Huat If you decide to make your own cake, grab all your baking need as Phoon Huat, on Jalan Merah Saga, Chip Bee Gardens, other outlets.

There are many blogs online which teach you how to DIY cakes. I have been done them for my boys birthday, celebrations etc.
