Have you read about The Best Job in the World? This is how a six month stint as caretaker on beautiful Hamilton Island, off the Barrier Reef, in Australia is being described. The job pays AUS$150,000 and includes free airfares from the successful candidate's home country to this little speck of an island which is just white sands, coral and clear waters.

The job description includes sampling a new luxury spa treatment, trying out new snorkeling gear on Heron Island, bushwalking, sailing, fishfeeding, and cleaning the pool! The winner will report to a global audience via weekly blogs, photo diaries and video updates.

Understandably, there have been 34,684 applicants from some 200 countries for this once in a lifetime opportunity, and they have now been shortlisted to 50 hopefuls. These people come from all walks of life, from chefs to teachers and adventurers.

The Top 50 will be narrowed down to a final 11, 10 of whom will be chosen by Tourism Queensland with an 11th 'wild card' applicant chosen by popular vote.

There are two Singaporean residents in the top 50 applicants. The first is Jimmy, who wears flippers into Raffles Place and describes himself as a "fish out of water". Here is his 1 minute application video:

The other Singaporean applicant is 'Greg', who wears flippers, wetsuit and mask and snorkel onto the MRT and interviews people about the Great Barrier Reef (to vacant stares). He's got 1244 votes at time of writing, which definitely puts him in the top 10. Here is his video:

You can help these guys (or any of the other applicants) have a chance at an interview by voting for them in a wildcard poll. You are allowed one vote every 24 hours until 24 March. You can see all 50 videos here, and make your vote. Check out Anjaan from India (365 votes) and if you think you've an active kind of person, check out Chris from Australia (387 votes) for a kick in the pants! Phew, I'm exhausted just watching him for 1 minute.
