I am very excited about the La Feria at Chijmes this weekend. There will be some beautiful dancing to enjoy and it is just a great excuse to get dressed up and enjoy the colour and passion of Spanish dance.

Feria de April is a festival that happens every year in Sevilla, Spain, and the The Flamenco Festival Committee, a group of flamenco and Spanish culture enthusiasts has organised the fourth annual Feria for us to enjoy. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the energy and passion of flamenco, with children, students, amateurs and professionals all getting together to dance and have a party.

It is always a riot of colour, with some amazing costumes, ornaments and shawls being paraded. If you don't know the first thing about Flamenco or Spanish dance, never mind, you will be swept away by the enthusiasm of the dancers. The traditional folk dance, Sevillanas, is a simple dance to learn and thus everyone from children to grandmothers will dance it together.

There will be Spanish Tapas and Sangria set up in a tent designed to project the atmosphere of the traditional CASETAS (decorated marquee tents). You can buy a ticket for SG$25 for the two nights of 18th and 19th April here. Festivities begin at 7pm on Saturday night and 6pm on Sunday night, with performances by various Singapore Flamenco Studios, including Singapore Flamenco Circle, Le Grand School of Dance, Alhambra Studio and my studio, Dance Circle Studios (Sunday night 8pm). I will be trying to keep my nerves at bay while dancing a Rumba, and then there will be a chance for everyone to get up and dance some Sevillanas.
