Changi Airport Terminal 3 is fast becoming a place to visit just for the fun of it rather than simply to catch a flight out. I would never have considered visiting an airport for any other reason but to fly out of it-but the last couple of times I have visited T3 (to meet family arriving and to fly to Sydney) I was struck by how many Singaporeans seemed to be enjoying the restaurants, shops and activities without actually flying anywhere.
And why not? If you live nearby (and nothing is so far in Singapore) then the terminal can serve as your local mall, with lots of shopping bargains, delicious food and great entertainment.
This Carboot Sale and Flea Market is a fine example of using the space (ie. the carpark) at the terminal to attract the locals. Happening every third weekend, there is plenty of interesting, quirky and cheap goods to be found. For the vendors it's a perfect way to sell their wares-just drive the car into the carpark and sell straight from there. And if they have no car, a table and chairs is provided.
This weekend there will also be street performers dazzling the crowds with their football freestyle stunts and tricks, so for all the World Cup fans this will be an exciting spectacle.
You can have a fun few hours at T3, enjoying the kids' fun rides next to the Carboot Sale and The Slide@T3, Singapore's tallest slide, on level 1. It is so tall that you can reach speeds of up to six metres per second! There is also another slide at basement 2 which is better for smaller children. Next time we're there we will definitely have a go.
